How I Stopped Comparing and Realigned with My Voice
Let’s talk about something that sneaks up on all of us—especially as moms building businesses in the noisy online space.
Comparison.
It doesn’t matter how confident you are, how long you’ve been in the game, or how clear you think you are on your messaging… comparisonitis can still creep in and mess with your mind.
And that’s exactly what happened to me.
When Inspiration Becomes a Trap
It started innocently. I was scrolling for inspiration—analyzing content, noticing trends—and suddenly found myself spiraling.
There was a trend circulating around “embodying authority” and a subtle shade being thrown at coaches with “BFF energy.” It rubbed me the wrong way, especially because the messaging was coming from women I admire deeply.
But here’s the thing…
I know their intention wasn’t to discourage. Their content did what it was meant to do—it made me reflect.
But the reflection turned into a full-on identity wobble.
I started wondering if I was too friendly. Too approachable. Too “mom biz bestie” for people to take me seriously.
Which is wild, because golden retriever energy is kind of my thing. That’s the energy I bring into my coaching containers, my stories, and my business. It’s what makes me me.
And yet… there I was, second-guessing everything.
The Quiet Cost of Comparison
The problem with comparison is that it doesn’t just make you feel bad—it dilutes your message.
When you start consuming too much from others in your industry, you start sounding like them. And the moment you do that?
You stop speaking to your people.
Their messaging was never created with your audience in mind. So when you start adopting it, your content falls flat. You lose clarity. You feel stuck. And you blend in with everyone else… which is the opposite of the goal, right?
That’s why putting your blinders on is critical.

What It Actually Means to “Put Your Blinders On”
Let me break this down in a way that’s simple and actionable—because this is where the magic starts to happen:
1. Define Your Vision (Again)
Get crystal clear on your mission, your message, and your person.
Go back to your ideal client. Reconnect with your “why.” If you need help with this, my Captivate & Convert workshop will guide you back to alignment fast.
2. Mute & Unfollow Strategically
It’s not petty—it’s powerful.
If someone’s content is distracting or triggering self-doubt, mute them. Unfollow with love. I have a saved folder of creators I admire, and I’ll peek in occasionally… but I don’t let their voice become louder than my own.
3. Create Before You Consume
Protect your voice by creating in your own energy first.
Don’t scroll before you write. Don’t binge content before you show up on Stories. Let your truth lead.
Here’s the mantra I come back to again and again:
“I don’t need to be louder. I just need to be aligned.”
How I Found My Way Back
After feeling off, I took a full step back.
It was spring break, and for the first time in years, I let myself truly lean into home life. I didn’t post. I didn’t scroll. I didn’t even listen to podcasts.
I didn’t consume.
I reflected.
I journaled.
I wrote down everything—business thoughts, feelings, ego-driven insecurities.
Then I questioned them. Were they true?
Most of them weren’t.
I realized that just because something works for someone else doesn’t mean it’s right for me.
And that’s okay.

You’re Not Supposed to Be Like Everyone Else
There is no one who can do what you do, the way you do it.
Some people like Wendy’s.
Some like McDonald’s.
Others swear by Freddy’s or Five Guys.
They all make burgers.
But they each have their own vibe—and so do you. Your ideal clients are looking for you. Not the filtered version.
Not the trendy version.
Not the “be more authoritative” version.
Just you.
